Biography

Hae Won Jeong is a soprano of classical music from South Korea who has already achieved notable accomplishments in her career. After Hae Won received her BA in vocal music at the Korean National University of Arts in 2019, she moved to Zurich to undertake her Master’s studies at the Zurich University of the Arts (Zürcher Hochschule der Künste) under the guidance of Prof. Scot Weir. Afterward receiving her MA in 2022, she joined Theater Basel as 1st soprano of the choir in the same year. To date, Hae Won is the youngest member of the Theater Basel choir and also the first Korean to join the exciting group. In parallel to her choir activities, Hae Won made her professional solo debut in 2023 at Theater Basel as Eine Stimme in the opera Intolleranza. Also in parallel, she also started undertaking her studies for Master Specialized Music Performance under the guidance of Prof. Sebastian Geyer at the Zurich University of the Arts. Prior to her debut at Theater Basel, Hae Won had earned recognition for her performances in various international competitions, winning first place in music competitions including the 38th Piero Boni International Opera Competition and the 3rd Swiss International Music Competition. Her talents have also been recognized by the Swiss government who awarded her the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship for Foreign Students from 2020 to 2022 for her MA studies at the Zurich University of the Arts. With her debut in Theater Basel, Hae Won has proven that she is a special talent who is destined for even greater heights in the world of classical music.
